A bike not starting off instantly is always a nightmare. We usually only check two things when our bikes stop working; Our fuel and battery.

But there is so much more that could be contributing to us not getting anywhere!

Here are four things that you should look into if your bike isn’t starting.

Clogged Fuel Tank Vent: There is a small vent on the fuel tank of your motorcycle for the outlet to supply fuel continuously to the intake system. In most of the bikes in India, it is the keyhole of the fuel tank cap. When this vent gets clogged, the tank stops the supply of fuel to the lower system. You can unclog the vent with a very thin wire or pin along with a forced blow in that hole, which then allows the fuel to flow to the lower part. This should allow you to start your bike. If the problem persists you should visit a mechanic to check for other underlying issues.

Non-Engaging Clutch: A blocked airbox or muffler exit also creates a starting problem, which can occur due to a cut wire/snipped wire, this severs the clutch and prevents it from working. You should also check the intake and exhaust system of your bike if there is anything that has been lodged due to rains or heavy winds.

Loose Spark Plug Wire: A loose spark plug wire is not a new thing for motorcycle riders, it can occur due to the jerks or previous underlying issues, you don’t need a mechanic to fix this problem. Just unplug and re-plug the connectors and you’re good to go!

Engine Cutoff Switch: One of the most common things we forgot to check before we come to the conclusion that our bike has come to its willful end. Most of the time we use the ignition key to turn off the motorcycle instead of the engine kill or cutoff switch. So when we use it, we forget to turn off the switch sometimes and we go ahead with force starting the bike, which could cause future problems.
